Opposing Resolution for the Immigration Zero-Tolerance Policy

First 5 Alameda County condemns the system and policy-induced trauma and retraumatization of children and their families crossing the U.S. border, many of whom have fled their countries due to severe poverty, rape, gang violence, and political persecution. First 5 Alameda County believes separating families, keeping children and families in detention centers, and destabilizing young children threatens their safety, development, and health. These human rights violations will have negative, long-lasting consequences for the overall health and well-being of children.  At their Commission meeting on June 21, 2018, the First 5 Alameda County Commission unanimously voted to adopt a resolution against family separation under the Presidential Administration’s “zero-tolerance” policy on individuals crossing the U.S. – Mexico border.
