Kristin Spanos serves as the Chief Executive Officer for First 5 Alameda County. In partnership with First 5 Alameda County Commission and dedicated staff, the innovative public agency is overseeing the administration of over $200 million in revenue from voter-led ballot initiatives, as well as other federal, state and philanthropic funds. With these resources, the agency is building a comprehensive and coordinated early childhood system with a “whole community, whole family, whole child” approach. The community-centered system building aims to ensure that policies, systems, communities, and schools support families and children by creating the conditions that position all for success. 

Throughout her career, Spanos has been recognized as a trusted and equity-driven leader in the public and nonprofit sectors, holding leadership in policy, finance, programmatic and economic development positions in the City of Oakland, County of Alameda, non profits and the Federal Reserve Banks in New York City and San Francisco.  

Spanos holds a Master of Public Administration specializing in Public Finance from New York University, Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from San Francisco State University. She lives in Oakland with her husband and daughter and enjoys learning from her 9-year-old, traveling, watching a variety of sports, and discovering local restaurants.
