
Oakland Children’s Initiative
Measure AA: Oakland’s commitment to deepen early investment in children.
What is Measure AA?
The Oakland Children’s Initiative (Measure AA) was passed in November 2018 and upheld by the courts in 2021. The measure is funded by a parcel tax that generates approximately $30 million annually in funding for early care and education and college preparedness programs for Oakland residents.
In December 2022, First 5 Alameda County was awarded the contract to serve as the Oakland Children’s Initiative’s Early Care and Education Implementation Partner.
We’re committed to stewarding these public resources responsibly and effectively in partnership with the City of Oakland, community governance and advisory bodies, and other early care and education partners—particularly parents, caregivers, and early care and education professionals.
So California has a history of bragging about having the best, the fifth largest economy in the world. Guess how that happened? It happened because folks were able to get educated through early ed. And not only that, early ed allowing folks to go to work so that they too can facilitate in building this great economy that we have.
