Kindergarten Enrollment... Already???
The start of the 2013-2014 school year may seem a long way off. However, in some school districts, Kindergarten registration begins as early as December and runs through May. Both Oakland and Berkeley Unified School District start Kindergarten enrollment in the first week of December. Do parents in your program know what they need to do to enroll their child in Kindergarten?
Help Reduce the Stress
Kindergarten is an important milestone and a time that should be filled with happiness and excitement for the entire family. Early care and education providers and community agencies that work directly with families can help parents prepare for kindergarten enrollment. Linking parents early to the school where their child will attend, offering gentle reminders about kindergarten registration and providing parents with K-enrollment resources can help make the process a bit
less stressful for them. Many schools offer Kindergarten orientation and open-house events. Parents can be encouraged to attend Kindergarten orientations to obtain enrollment forms and other pertinent information about their child's school.
