Investing in Communities, Transforming Lives

An Investment That Works

The Booth Memorial Child Development Center in Oakland's Fruitvale district was established 24 years ago to help break the cycle of poverty by providing infants, toddlers and preschool children of low income families a free comprehensive program. Over the course of those years, serving more than 60 kids at a time, the Center got pretty run down. But check out this video and see how funding and support from First 5 Alameda County and others gave the center a new lease on life. As our partners at the Low Income Investment Fund (LIIF) say, "it's an investment in what works!"

Healthier, Safer, More Fun

Improvements to the Center's inside and outside spaces - including a beautiful garden to grow healthy food - transformed the Booth Center to a healthier, safer and more fun place for children and their families. First 5 Alameda County provided funding through our Child Care Facilities Fund, Quality Counts grant, and also made available an independent consultant who helped the Center leverage even more support for low-income families. This is a program we're really proud to support - helping children and families who need help the most.
